What lead us to one more huge bank failure? The said bank had taken a lot of deposits fast and invested in low yield instruments. The managers decided to give out a lot of mortgages at low rates, sometimes 2%-3% below the market. The regulators were caught sleeping on the wheel, doing nothing for more than a year after problems were first reported. Very basic stuff, but still nobody did anything to fix the problem. We may sound like a broken radio, but at Artemis Assets it is our duty to remind you. This cannot happen in Real Estate, where you are the owner and you safekeep your own property.

In 1859 Charles Dickens wrote the famous book “A Tale of Two Cities”, which would become one of the best-selling novels of all time and will be produced in several film and theatre adaptations. It’s a historical novel that is set in late 18th century London and Paris, just before and during the French Revolution. But what does this have to do with Real Estate? The 1987 film “Wall Street” follows the adventures of junior stockbroker Bud Fox (played by Charlie Sheen) as he rises to financial fame and wealth thanks to his dealings with legendary Wall Street player Gordon Gekko (played by Michael Douglas). In one scene, Gordon Gekko is addressing the shareholders meeting of one of the companies in his portfolio. He blames the company’s management for being lazy and incompetent, thus not doing their best for their shareholders. He says “The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good. […] Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind.”
