- In front of your nose -

Dear friends,

There are very few authors that can claim to be so famous that they had a genre, a practice, or a situation named after themselves. One of them is Eric Arthur Blair, more known by his pen name ‘George Orwell’. He is famous for his books ‘Animal farm’, ‘1984’, ‘Burmese Days’. He is also known because the word ‘Orwellian’, which describes totalitarian and authoritarian social practices, has officially entered the English language.

Today we will talk about him for a much humbler reason. One of his famous quotes rings true to every person out there, just because it’s so simple and obvious. Orwell famously said: “To see what is in front of one’s nose needs a constant struggle.” Orwell said it in the context of political analysis and forecasting, but we believe it can be applied everywhere. So we applied it in what we do every day, Spanish Real Estate.

So how is it related to Spanish Real Estate? At Artemis Assets we had a good look around us to see how the Spanish Real Estate landscape looks. We confess that we liked what we saw. We saw that the quality of startups is comparable to the highflyers of the tech sector like the US, Germany, and the UK. We saw that the quality of the services provided to investors are world class, with a variety of different schemes and investment options available. We saw that the rewards for investors are quite high, without compromises in market risks or in property rights. How did that happen? How did Spain become a superpower in Proptech and Real Estate?

We can think of a few reasons. First, the quality of life in Spain attracts both investors and talent. The price to pay for that quality is quite reasonable too, so demand is high! The Real Estate industry has become more efficient to deal with that increased demand. Second, it is a very diverse and fragmented market. There are big differences between living and doing business in Barcelona, Bilbao, and Sevilla. This led to the creation of many startups and SMEs who operate successfully in their micro-economy. Third, there is a lot of work to be done. Real Estate is a traditional and slow-moving industry which did little to modernize up until recently. The influx of cheap money, the pandemic, and the improvement of software has accelerated the change.

If you are looking to invest in a country that combines modernity and quality of life, please talk to us. We will show you how easy it is to see in front of your nose.

Until the next one!

We believe that the main thing is superior capital returns with peace of mind. This is what all investors should be aiming for and they should ruthlessly ignore everything else. It means making your money work hard for you, not the other way around.
