Dear friends,
One of Shakespeare’s most famous, or rather infamous, characters is Richard III in the homonymous tragedy. The play depicts his Machiavellian rise to power, his bloody intrigues, his subsequently short reign and death. Richard III is portrayed as a villain by Shakespeare, although we know that he wasn’t such a bad chap after all. The bard’s dark portrayal of Richard III was as an indirect praise to Elizabeth I, whose ancestors defeated and killed Richard III, another sign that history is written by the winners. So let’s dig into the play.
In the play’s final act, Richard III has found himself isolated in the battle of Bosworth Field during the War of the Roses. He has lost his horse, which was a vital component of a fighter’s equipment in medieval times. He is surrounded by enemies, thus finding himself in mortal danger. The only way to escape is to ride away from the battlefield, and that’s when Shakespeare makes him cry: “A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse!”. ‘My kingdom for a horse’ is a now very well-known quotation, but also a clear overstatement. It’s meaning refers to being prepared to give anything for some small thing one needs above all else. But what does a medieval king have to do with Spanish Real Estate?
Thankfully today people who find themselves in need of a quick escape have another option. It’s called Golden Visa. They also don’t have to have to give away a whole kingdom. They just have to make a Real Estate investment in Spain. In return they can enter into an accelerated Permanent Residency program that can even lead to obtaining the citizenship in a few years. This is an increasingly legitimate solution for people outside the EU to start a new life abroad in a safe environment. A combination of inflation, conflicts, and natural disasters means that parts of the world are currently very unsafe. South America is plagued by protests and civil unrest (Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil), both North and Sub-Saharan Africa countries are struggling with food inflation, the Middle East is facing the aftermath of earthquakes and conflict, while Ukraine and Russia are engaged in full-blown war.
On the contrary, Spain can offer a very stable environment and high quality of life. The health system is one of the best in the EU, crime is very low by any standard, and the educational system is world-class across all stages. Spain can offer employment in pretty much all economic sectors, with world class services, industry, and agriculture. But even beyond the basic ingredients for survival, Spain offers a stable environment where the rule of law applies to all, it offers culture and entertainment, and the possibility of a healthy lifestyle. Lastly, the Spanish passport ranks quite high globally and gives access to the entirety of the EU.
If you know somebody who is interested in the Golden Visa program, please tell them to get in touch with Artemis Assets. They don’t have to be a king, we won’t give them a horse, but we will make sure their investment will produce lifelong returns.
Until the next one!
